Another busy day in Rome since I will be leaving tomorrow to head to Sorrento. We took the metro into the city and got off the metro right by the Colosseum. You should have seen my face when I got off the metro and the Colosseum was right there. It is so huge and not something you would expect to see right in the middle of a city. Then we walked inside and walked all the way around until I got pretty close to the top. Then, I looked down to the bottom of the Colosseum to see where the gladiator’s must have fought. It looks like a bunch of passageways which none of us could walk down to since it is blocked off (that part was closed off to the public). We ended up sitting on the steps of the Colosseum for awhile before we headed to the Roman Forum which is the old city of Rome. It was hard to believe that this place was in the middle of Rome. After seeing the Forum, we headed to the mouth of truth where if you put your right hand in the mouth and you tell a lie then the mouth is supposed to close on you. So I had to do it and see if the mouth would close on me. Nope, didn’t happen!
Headed to the catacombs (I forgot the exact name of the one we did see) where they had the bones of monks made into designs. Oh, Ye found the name of the church where the crypt that had the bones of the monks was named. It was the Santa Maria Della Concezione. Then, Kay was going to head back to the spanish steps while Renata, Ye and I were going to head back to camp. After we got on the metro, Ye decided she wanted to see the spanish steps after all. We got off the metro and headed to the spanish steps. After walking up the steps, we headed back to camp where I finally finished ‘The Witching Hour.’ Went to bed by 11:00 pm.
