One thing I love to do is plan and organize. It is one of the things I am good at especially when planning trips. Don’t get me wrong as much as I love to plan I also love being spontaneous when travelling. But sometimes it is more difficult to be spontaneous when travelling with a few friends or in my case (for next year) family that you need to plan things out. You want to have an idea of what to see and do each day. So that is what I am doing now. I am working on an itinerary of sorts because I know there are things that my nieces should see while we are in Dublin, Paris and Rome in June. I mean, how can you not go to Paris and not see the Eiffel Tower or Rome for the Colosseum or the Trevi Fountain. Those places go along with trying to add a few things I haven’t seen from my times of travelling overseas. Never been to Frascati so am thinking we may go there for lunch since it is only a couple of hours from Rome. Or Sperlonga for the beach since one of my nieces wants to go to the beach for the day while we are there. I am glad I will get to see some things that are new to me and definitely new to them since they have never been to any of these cities.
I wish I could be spontaneous on this trip but with only two weeks and so many days in each city that will be kind of hard to do. The only spontaneous things we will be doing if you want to call it spontaneous is we will have lots of time in the afternoons to do what we want to do. Not that we wouldn’t be doing what we want to do everyday but each day we will be seeing a couple of things. Then the afternoon and evening is free to get lost in the city, roam along the narrow streets, walk into the pubs or cafes’ and talk to the locals …….
Looking forward to trying to get some spontaneity on this trip. Will keep you posted when the trip gets here but for now here is the tentative itinerary I have planned for my nieces and me.
Let me know what you think.
Dublin:
Day 1
Guinness Storehouse National Gallery of Ireland Pub Crawl (and yes, I actually listed a pub crawl. Did one years ago with some people I met at the hostel I was staying in Bath, England. One of the most fun times I had during my travels. Want my nieces to experience this)Day 2
Kilmainham Gaol Old Jameson DistilleryDay 3
Going to one of these places for the day but haven’t decided which one yet
Kilkenny and Glendalough Belfast Galway Blarney to kiss the Blarney StoneLeaning towards Kilkenny and Glendalough since I have been to the other three places. This could be something new that I can experience seeing with my nieces
Day 4
Book of Kells @ Trinity College St. Stephen’s GreenParis:
Day 1
Pere Lachaise Cemetery Sacre-CouerDay 2
Champs Elysees Arc de Triomphe Eiffel TowerDay 3
Notre Dame Cathedral PantheonDay 4
VersaillesDay 5
Louvre Flea Market (added this because I love wandering through the flea markets to see what are being sold. Who knows I may find some things to bring back home)Rome:
Day 1
Mouth of Truth Spanish Steps Trevi Fountain PantheonDay 2
Colosseum Roman ForumDay 3
St. Peter’s Basilica VaticanDay 4
Galleria Borghese Go into Frascati for lunchDay 5
Sperlonga (for the beach but read about the white washed houses in the village so really want to wander through the village while there)When I booked the flights, I wasn’t able to get a more direct or should I say less of a layover coming back home from Rome. We are going to end up in Copenhagen overnight so am hoping to see something of the city while there. I have never been to Copenhagen so I am going to have to make the biggest effort there is to get myself from the airport into the city. Even if it is for a few hours. Our flight gets in way before midnight and then we don’t leave to head back to the states until after 12 noon the next day.
Now do you see why I have to make the effort to see some of Copenhagen while we are there. It would be a shame to be in a city and not see any of it. Not counting seeing anything from the airport.
