What can I say about the first Baltic country I chose to visit? This will tell you something. You know how much I loved Budapest since I raved about it in my posts about the city. Tallinn ranks right up there with Budapest on cities I would love to visit again….I try and venture out of my comfort zone when making my way to another city. One way to do this is to try the food. This was not any different when I left home and took this trip. I should suffice to say I do make sure to find a market for bread and avocado. It is my fallback plan if I end up not liking something. In other words, my plan B.I know it is the tiny things in life that make one happy. Food is at the top of the list. Or should I say trying something new from another place. I found a vendor that sold the doner kebabs. So, I had one for lunch. The one I had was grilled pork, tomatoes, lettuce, sweet pickles, jalapenos, and fries with sauce that looked like thousand island dressing.Speaking of vendors, they had people who were selling warm almonds off their cars. Pretty good with a little sweetness to them.Besides the vendor I found near where I was staying, I knew I needed to stop in for a bite at Hesburger. Hesburger, did you say? Yes, it turns out you need to stop in one when you visit any of the Baltic Countries because they have locations in all three. As for this place, it made me think of McDonald’s and Burger King. But oh, so much better than McDonald’s. What would these three have in common if I were referring to them? They are a fast-food restaurant chain with locations all over the city. I ended up getting the chicken burger, fries, and sprite. It only cost me 4.80 euros for the meal.The last place I should mention, and it is not an honorable mention. It would be one of those places I would go back to repeatedly. It was that good! The place in question is Josephine’s. I found it on one of my walks and had to stop in for lunch. I decided to go big or go home. I ordered the hot sandwich with ciabatta, goat cheese and tomato. They have an XL behind the hot sandwiches. Not sure what that means? XL for x large. wink:) As for the drink, I went with hot chocolate with rum raisins and chili. Different and not something I would typically order. It had a kick to it; need to stir it since the chocolate settles to the bottom.What food have you tried on your travels? Did you stick to the tried and true from back home that made its way to the country you were visiting? Did you try the local cuisine and eat where the locals eat? Or did you stop by one of those touristy hot spots that you heard about when you did your research?
