In interviewing Cailin of Travel Yourself and The Taste of Travel, she talked about how she came up with the idea for a travel web series and filming it while ‘on the road’.
1) How did you come up with the idea for a travel web series?
I had majored in film in University and on my travels I would take lots of photographs and then I started playing around with video. I found myself saying that I would love to have my own travel TV show (like many people do) however instead of just saying it, I decided to do it and I flew myself and a camera man to Spain to film the first episode of my own travel show and from there I just keep filming every time I travel.
2) Did you realize you wanted to incorporate your love for travel with a series shot ‘on the road’?
I wasn’t sure of any other way to show my love for travel with then to do it with a series shot while traveling. Sitting at home and just talking about travel would never be enough.
3) How did you decide you wanted to focus your travel series “more on the 
experience than the destination itself”?
I find so many travel shows that are out there are specifically about the destination, the history, food and culture but you never really know about the host and their thoughts on traveling and how they plan everything and do it all. I wanted to focus more on the traveler and the experiences they have rather than just the destination itself.
4) What are some of the best experiences ‘on the road’ you’ve had since Travel Yourself became a reality?
I’m not even sure where to begin, I’ve had so many amazing experiences. 2012 has been my biggest year of travel yet and I’ve had the opportunity to work with some great tourism boards and have done things like go on Safari in South Africa and seeing wild orangutans in Indonesia that have been out of this world. I’m very lucky and blessed to of had the success so far that I currently have.
5) How important do you feel it is to know certain words in another language such as ‘good morning’ and ‘good evening’ when traveling?
I think this is very important. Not only to impress strangers and start conversations but it can also be key to your safety to know some main words and phrases in a different language for the country you are traveling in. Also I’ve found people will be way more willing to help you with a question or if you are lost if you put in that extra effort of learning some of their language.
6) Any advice you can give to someone who would like to travel long term but they are letting their fear stop them from taking that last step from cubicle life to world traveler?
The best advice I can give someone in this situation is to just do it, make it happen. Look into things like MeetPlanGo.com and reach out to other travelers that you admire and ask them for suggestions and inspiration. Remember long term travel isn’t for everyone but if it is for you it will happen.
