Lilly, Ye and I headed into Venice for the day. It took us about 15 minutes by ferry to get to the island. After arriving on the island, we stopped at a cafe and I ordered a hot chocolate in Italian. I had brought a phrase book with me and was attempting to use it while travelling. Then we tried to find Piazza San Marco. I don’t know how many times we asked for directions but we finally found it. Piazza San Marco has to be one of the most famous squares in the world. They have vendors set up in the square selling corn that you can feed the pigeons. I didn’t realize how many pigeons there were until we were here. They would come right up to you and sometimes they would land on your arms and shoulders to eat the corn you were trying to feed to them. While there, we walked up or better yet, took a lift up to the clock tower to get a better view of Venice. While we were in the clock tower, the bells went off and they were really loud! After leaving the tower, we walked around some more heading towards Rialto Bridge. I also had to buy a mask while there since Venice is known for their masks. They had mask shops all over the place.
We stayed in Venice all day until about 7:00 pm when we headed back to the camp to have dinner at the restaurant. I ended up ordering spaghetti with mushrooms. Then I called it an early night. Well, early for me, since most of my nights here have gone into the next morning.
